Count down

Pam Dew has made this beautiful advent calendar, pocket by pocket. This will become somebody's family heirloom to be brought out every December for generations to come.

People say to me, 'Don't mention the 'C' word'. But little by little 'C' things are creeping into the shop.
Opinion is divided as to when shops should bring out their 'C' displays.  I thought end of August is too early for charity shops to stock 'C' cards. And I don't want the first thing I see in Waitrose to be a giant stack of 'C' puddings and mince pies (sell by date end of November).

I know that lots of people shop all year round for 'C' gifts. I have never been able to organise myself to be one of them. And frankly I'd rather not be reminded of 'C' until around now when the temperature has dropped and one starts thinking of getting cosy and gathering with family and friends.

As I cannot visit your shop frequently, I am one of your customers who is already buying things for 'C'; I am not normally so organised but there are so many gorgeous gifts in your shop that I cannot resist and I am really pleased with myself for getting some gifts so early; of course, I still expect to be tearing around during the last week trying to find things for certain people such as my significant other! In my previous retail life I had 'C' items in the shop all year round as we had so many tourists visiting us that they could only buy them on that one visit and I must admit, they were some of our best sellers. For some of us, 'C' cannot start too early...

In my previous retail life I had Christmas Stock in from September (ordering in May) but didn't actually decorate the shop until mid November.

The Saturday nearest 16th November was the real 'start day' for the C season. Do keep plenty of stock in hand because makers won't be doing much just before C.
